WELSH BUSINESSES AGREE TO INVEST £12M IN CARDIFF'S SPORTS TEAMS

Welsh businesses have already agreed to invest over £12m in the capital’s football and rugby teams, with 1400 of the 2250 exclusive Premier Club seats in Cardiff’s New Stadium selling out over a year before the stadium is set to open.

The Premier Club, which will be the exclusive members-only club at Cardiff’s New Stadium, future home to Cardiff City FC and Cardiff Blues Rugby, is estimated to generate a total revenue of over £36m for the clubs over the next five years. Members pay a one off joining fee of £1250 to attend Cardiff City FC’s home games, £750-£1000 to attend Cardiff Blues Rugby or £1500 for a combined seat, plus a monthly subscription. All money generated from the seats will be directly invested in the clubs.

With facilities designed especially for networking and entertaining, the Premier Club has proved especially popular with Welsh businesses. Giovanni Malacrino, who owns a number of the capital’s popular restaurants and bars, has purchased two seats to watch Cardiff City FC.

He said,

“Businesses in Wales should all work together to support our teams and invest some money in the clubs. If we support them, they will play better and then maybe they will be promoted to the Premiership. If that happens Wales will benefit – families will come and stay in our hotels, go to our shops and eat at our restaurants. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the match with family and friends whilst meeting people to do business with.”

Members of the Premier Club will enjoy a host of benefits including allocated, padded seating overlooking the half way line, corporate hospitality in the exclusive five star bars and restaurant, private entry to the ground, allocated VIP parking and tickets to every home game.

Ashley Donlan, Managing Director of the Premier Club explains,

“The club’s ideal for small and medium sized businesses because it’s so flexible. Business membership traditionally means paying for a box or a table of ten, but at the New Stadium you can choose the number of seats you’d like to buy, choose on the day the kind of dining you’d like and crucially choose how much you would like to pay. It allows smaller businesses to enjoy all the benefits of corporate hospitality at a fraction of the cost. It’s unlike anything seen in Wales before.”

The Premier Club concept has already proved a success at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium, shared by Swansea City FC and the Ospreys, where all of the seats sold out before the stadium even opened. The New Stadium will be even bigger with a total capacity of 25,785 seats, second in size in Wales only to the Millennium Stadium.

Construction of the New Stadium is set to be complete in time for the 09/10 season. Laing O’Rourke began work in October and are anticipated to commence steelwork next month (March), using an estimated 3,900 tonnes of steel, held together by 65,000 bolts. The structure of the stadium will be completed at the end of this summer.

Once all Premier Club seats sell out, they will remain so for at least five years.

Membership is open to all, and all interested fans are asked to call 0845 217 1927.
